Blessings are really amazing, even more so when you think that many times God gives them to us and we don’t even recognize what they are.

Sitting in church yesterday with my son sitting still and zombie like from two overnight birthday parties in a row – one was his and, quite frankly, I was a little zombie like myself – the pastor made mention of the fact that we should thank God for all of our blessings, like relationships, food, a roof over our heads and the other blessings God gives us.

Most of us don’t really see the blessings that surround us because they’re not really what we’re looking for, and, being human, we really only see the things we’re looking for until God opens our eyes to what we have.

Really what I want to drive is a Porsche Carrera GT, but I have an older Ford F-150. Yes, a huge difference in vehicle reality and vehicle preference, but, really I am thankful for the blessing of a vehicle. Period.

I’d also like a little bigger house where the boys could have a sleep over and not sleep on top of each-other. But, I have a house that’s the perfect size for my son and I.

And, at the end of the day even if I’d rather have something else than what I have, that’s all just stuff.

The real blessing lies in the relationships that God has given us, along with the reality that He has provided a way for us to have a relationship with Him through the sacrifice of His son.

The longer we spend time with Him, the more we’ll realize that He blesses us greatly because he loves us. But, at the end of the day, He is all we have, the Ultimate Blessing and everything else is just icing on the cake.

“LORD, You are my portion and my cup of blessing, You hold my future.”
Psalm 16:5
