It’s Thanksgiving here in the States, a day set aside to be thankful for everything that we have been given.

It has morphed somewhat from that first Thanksgiving all those years ago when the settlers were thanking God for His provision, both in the gift of the native people’s who helped them survive, teaching them how to plant and harvest, as well as being thankful for the bounty of that harvest.

As God warns His people the Israelite’s to be careful when they become prosperous and successful because those are ripe conditions for them to forget Him. He so warns all those who claim belief in Him no matter what country they live in, or where they are in their walk with Him.

Those who live in prosperous successful countries have a tendency to turn away from God, claim their success is self-made and forget to not only be thankful to the God who made it all possible, but to start to claim that He doesn’t exist at all.

The reality is that God does exist, He is living and active and all the blessings you have come from Him. And, even if they don’t seem like much or they’re not what we really want, He knows what we need in any season of our lives and we all need to be thankful to the One who makes them possible for us.

No matter what, we are to remember and be thankful to the God who created the Universe. He has such a heart for each of us, such a great all-consuming love, that He provides the way for us to have a relationship with Him through His sacrifice made for us.

What kind of god does such a thing? The one and only living God does such a thing, and make no mistake about it, there is no other but Him.

And for that, I for one, am extremely thankful.

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
